The combination of percussion (played by Haedong) and string instruments (played by Donghee) create an experience similar to the heartbeat of a human being and when combined with fragrances (created by Yidan) represent a new space-time that departs from all existing narratives. They were also accompanied by masters who have been cultivating their music for decades.

One night, the Dokkaebi(Korean goblin) banged the drums and plucked their strings having fun while breathing in the scent of incense. Suddenly the Dosa(‌masters who have been cultivating their music for decades) appeared and shook the Dokkaebi.
Will the Dosa be taken by the Dokkaebi, or will the Dokkaebi pass the Dosa?


                                  타악기(해동)와 굵은 현 악기(동희)로 인간의 심장박동과 가까운 소리를 만들고,
                               이에 향(이단)을 피워 기존의 어떤 서사도 갖지 않은 새로운 시공간을 창조해냈다.
                                               여기에 각자의 음악 분야에서 오래도록 도를 닦아온 도사들이 함께했다.


                                                 도깨비들이 신나게 북을 치고 줄을 튕기고 향불을 피우며 놀던 어느 밤,
                                                                         갑자기 도사들이 등장하여 도깨비 판을 뒤흔들어놓는다.
                             도사들은 도깨비들의 꾀에 당할 것인가, 도깨비들이 도사들의 도에 넘어갈 것인가?

‌“DOKKAEBI PLAY“ arose from speculating what early music might have been like. Just as music evolved together with the history of mankind and human ceremonies, the ceremonial music of the HAEDONG SEOUNGGUK album came into its own ceremony. The ceremony it expresses might be a rain dance, or a funeral, or a hunting ceremony, or even a tea ceremony. Whatever it expresses doesn’t necessarily matter. The moderators of this ceremony are also defined as DOKKAEBI (Korean goblin), rather musicians or performers. DOKKAEBIes change into trees and stones during the day, and when night comes, enjoy dancing and singing together. The figure of DOKKAEBI, somewhere between human and god simultaneously possesses the contradictory traits of pleasantness, wretchedness, and remarkableness.

This album was designed in such a way that the musicians made improvisations to the music based on olfactory stimulation using incenses such as sandalwood, agarwood, frankincense, staranis, and camphor, which have been widely used throughout history. Each track name was influenced by the scientific name and blending ratio of the specific incense. The incense
of the kit was designed to be both chaotic and ordered, smooth and coarse, harmonic and dissonant, as if it were a tangled sound coming from DOKKAEBIes and DOSAs(masters who have been cultivating their music for decades).
